The Clarendon High School Music Department has an established tradition of excellence and offers a wide variety of opportunities for individual and group music-making

 

LEARN AN INSTRUMENT

Tuition is offered in cello, clarinet, drum kit, flute, classical guitar, piano, recorder, saxophone, steel pan, voice and violin/viola

A limited number of instruments (Cellos, clarinets, flutes, guitars, saxophones and violins) are vailable for hire:

Cost:  R350 refundable deposit plus R250 hire per term

 

OPTIONS FOR INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS

MUSIC AS A SUBJECT

Clarendon High offers Subject Music in Grade 8 - 12.  This is called Specialist Music in Grade 8 - 9 and is taken instead of the Music Component of Arts and Culture which all Grade 8's and 9's study.  Speicalist Musicians receive one indicdual practical lesson per week on their chosen instrument, as well as one theory class and one General Musical Knowledge class.  Beginners may take Specialist Music (except pianists and recoder players)

Fees per term:  None

Levy per term:  R130

Subject students who wish to study a second instrument may take C0-Curricular Music in addition to Specialist/Subject Music.

Students who wish to continue with Subject Music in Grade 10 may do so, if they have reached the level of Grade 3 on their instrument.

(Fees of R220 per term if Music is taken as an extra subject)

CO-CURRICULAR MUSIC (non-subject)

Students receive one individual lesson per week on their chosen instrument.  This lesson includes basic theory.

JOIN A GROUP

Students are encouraged to participate in Ensemble groups.  This experience is a vital and enriching one for our young musicians who spend many hours in private practice.

Group music making affords the opportunity to learn from others, fine-tunes istening skills and develops confidence.
