Our tennis year began with a convincing win over DSG and continued in the same vein – a great deal of fun and a great many wins.
Senior A league was played on a Wednesday, with Clarendon winning the league and our C team entered the B league coming third against East London schools.
An under 15’s team was also entered into the league, the A team came first and the B team came third.
Our top four, Alex Sannan, Sarah Ive, Jessica Pollock and Kelly Nel won the St Mary’s Kloof Tennis Tournament beating Oranje Meisieskoof in the final which was a brilliant.
Clarendon hosted the Selborne/Clarendon Doubles Tournament which they unfortunately lost in the finals to Grey PE/Collegiate. That same weekend our top seven players managed to attain third position at the prestigious Paarl Gimnasium Tennis Tournament.
At the Inter-Schools Doubles Tournament held at Selborne Park – Clarendon came first in all three sections, under 18 with Julia Chemaly and Lise-Marie Coetzee, under 16 with Tayla Collett and Clarissa Moodley and under 14 with Joanna Nel and Jessica Wellman.
The top seven competed in the Marillie Moolman Tennis Tournament in Craddock and Clarendon reached the final against Eunice but due to poor weather was unable to finish. Clarendon Top seven girls came third in the Amanda Coetzee Tournament played in Bloemfontein.
The following Clarendon girls were chosen to represent Border at the Inter Provincial Tournament in Bloemfontein, Alex Sannan, Sarah Ive and Jessica Pollock under 18 and Rebecca Pope and Jessica Wellman under 14.
We would like to congratulate Sarah Ive on her wonderful achievement on the ITF circuit.
Tennis at Clarendon is not only great fun but is it of an incredibly high standard with a great deal of depth. I would like to thank our coaches and in particular Mrs Coetzee who has maintained such a keen interest in our sport and has helped push it to such heights. I have felt privileged and honoured to captain such an incredibly strong young team and wish them all the very best for next year. Tennis is a life skill of which I am very proud to be part of.
